Marrying young linked to mental health problems

I found this very interesting for personal reasons.
According to the Huffington Post, a study of thousands of women found that marriage before the age of 18 was linked with a greater risk of depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Women who married before 18 were also more likely to become addicted to drugs, alcohol, or smoking. This was true even when researchers controlled for socioeconomic factors and the presence of children.
While the research doesn’t say that getting married young causes the problems, the researchers did find that these mental health issues and addictions tended to set in after the marriage took place.
I think they should look into whether or not there’s recovery after these marriages end in divorce. I’d be super interested in that.
